An exceptional pair of Swedish carved wooden candlesticks, dating to circa 1870, showcases the finest characteristics of Scandinavian country elegance and historic craftsmanship. The architectural silhouette features turned, rounded, and molded candle platforms terminating in original iron pricket spikes to securely hold large statement candles. The elegantly balanced baluster stems are deeply carved with stop-fluted channels and traditional acanthus leaf foliage, showcasing a distinct neoclassical influence adapted for the Swedish country home.
The upper stems rest dramatically upon heavy, sculptural, four-legged Baroque-style plinth bases. This stepped architectural foundation gives the pair structural stability and an imposing, statuesque profile.
