Item Details

An exceptionally rare and beautifully preserved mid-18th-century Venetian Rococo wall mirror, showcasing the elegance and master craftsmanship of the Venetian Republic's golden age.

This highly desirable piece features a wonderfully sculpted, cartel-form cartouche frame that brilliantly combines bold Baroque architecture with the delicate, romantic flourishes of the early Rococo period.
The hand-carved frame is crowned by an elaborate, openwork cresting featuring pair of scrolled mythical dragons or griffin flanking a central armorial cartouche.

The broad, gracefully shaped frame is finished in a charming combination of water-gilded gold leaf and soft ivory lacquer. It is exquisitely hand-painted with delicate floral vines, trailing rosebuds, and botanical garlands—a technique highly characteristic of 18th-century Venetian lacquer work.

The frame terminates at the base with a beautifully carved, asymmetric acanthus leaf apron that dramatically steps forward in high relief. Offered in its untouched antique condition.

The plate is a later historic replacement.
