Joseph Mathieu Art Deco 'Multiples' Chair 1920'S Lyon, France. This Chair Is A Very Early Design By Jh Mathieu, Lyon, France. Joseph Mathieu Has Designed And Manufactured Some Of The Most Iconic French Metal Stacking Chairs To Date And Was A Direct Competitor To Tolix At The Time Of Production.

This Is A Beautifully Designed And Rare Piece. The Seat Has A Diamond Cut Out Pattern And The Backrest Has The Most Beautiful Deco/Nouveau Styling. The Chair Has A Spring Mechanism Under The Seat So That The Back Rest Has Gentle Movement, Not Rigid As Later Fully Cast Models.

The Legs Are Super Fine And Shaped In Art Deco Fashion, They Have Cut Out Areas Which Were Lost In The Design Of The Later Models. The Chair Has No Paint, Its In Its Raw Original Polished Metal Finish. The Original Brass Makers Plate Is Attached With Copper Rivets On The Top Edge Of The Backrest.

This Model Is Extremely Rare And Could Even Be A Prototype As No Other Images Or Similar Pieces Can Be Found Or Any Reference To The Unusual Spring Mechanism.
