Item Description

An 18th Century Dutch Oak Cabinet or Cupboard Ornamented with Carved Heads.

Cupboards of this sort are known by the Dutch name of Beeldenkasten, meaning cabinets with figures. Our example is an 18th century piece and by this time pieces of this sort commonly had carved heads rather than entire caryatid figures on them. The angular effect created by the large number of geometric mouldings being utterly characteristic of furniture of that period. There are both drawers and cupboards for storage. Great quality carving, particularly to the masks/heads.
