An 18th Century French Ash Commode with Marble Top.

This commode has a mottled marble top with three graduated drawers below, all with escutcheon plates and lion's head handles in ormolu, and there are classical female bust mounts to the pilasters. Standing on originally bronze painted paw feet at the front and veneered wooden feet at the back.

An unusual commode veneered in figured ash. Wide contrasting crossbanding is used to highlight the ash and the same approach is used on the sides where the ash has been bookmatched. The top drawer retains its original fitted and divided compartments.
