This lovely table, made in the later regency period, has superb quality mahogany veneers throughout. The large rectangular top is supported on an inverted breakfront frieze, the central section being a cleverly concealed long drawer. The table stands on four reeded legs with lotus flower-type capitals and turned modified toupie and bun feet. Additional decoration in the form of mouldings is used on the projecting sections above each leg on the frieze.
The proportions and the unusual design suggest a bespoke commission and perhaps a piece of furniture that was architect designed. The reeded legs are something of a trademark of the firm of Gillows during this period and it may be that they were responsible for this very good piece of furniture.
