A large 18th Century Southern Italian Maiolica apothecary jar (bombola), decorated with a hand-painted armorial crest.


Originating from Sicily, or possibly the Bay of Naples, this jar is decorated in a muted palette with a crowned shield flanked by Orthos. The shoulders are decorated with a trellis and scroll border in yellow, manganese, blue and green.


A rare and wonderful survivor from the 18th Century.
