Richly carved and retaining traces of its original silver-gilt finish. The serpentine front apron is exuberantly decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves, cabochons, and shell motifs, centred by a bold rocaille cartouche. The deep, undercut carving — characteristic of Neapolitan craftsmanship of the mid-18th Century — displays exceptional fluidity and movement. Raised on four elegant cabriole legs, each carved with cascading foliage and terminating in outward-scrolling hoof feet, the whole design expresses the theatricality and opulence associated with Neapolitan Rococo interiors. The shaped top, painted in faux marble in warm ochre, green, and terracotta tones, complements the silvered surface beautifully.
This console exemplifies the highly decorative idiom of Southern Italy during the Bourbon period, where sculptural carving, rich gilding, and expressive forms were favoured for palazzo furnishings and ecclesiastical commissions alike. Its presence, scale, and shimmering surface make it an outstanding statement piece for both classical and contemporary settings.
