Well proportioned 19th Century Victorian Chesterfield sofa having unusual reeded tapering front mahogany legs on the original gilt collars and stamped castors C Hindley and Sons, London.
English, London made circa 1870.
Having out scrolled buttoned arms and back over a sprung seat, reupholstered in a Designers Guild bottle green velvet with contrast gold piping, raised on unusual mahogany front feet of tapering form with reeded inset panels retaining their original gilt collars and castors stamped C Hindley and Sons, London. Also numerically marked to the inside back leg 02786.
A very comfortable and desirable Victorian Chesterfield sofa having unusual front legs, stamped by the renowned London makers Charles Hindley and Sons.
C. Hindley and Sons, had their premises at 134 Oxford Street, from 1820-1830. They were prominent during the 19th century as a high end furniture makers and decorators with a Royal Warrant. The firm also exhibited several pieces of furniture at the 1851 Great Exhibition, having items from Tew Park, Great Tew, Oxfordshire, which were sold from the collection of the late Major Eustace Robb, Christie's house sale, 27-29 May 1987.
