A lovely 19th century giltwood Florentine overmantle mirror. French. Circa 1860.


The mirror being hand carved and water gilded with an open scrollwork surround, carved foliate guilloche inner moulding and relief acanthus ends to the top. The mirror boasts the original plate, which remains clear and viewable with scattered spotting and light foxing consistent with age. All photographs depict the original mirror plate.


The frame having the original gold leaf, with attractive aged patina, bole visible in places. There are age related hairlines consistently around the frame. The gesso is stable throughout. There has been a historic repair to the top left hand side as shown, where a missing leaf has been replaced with a simple bow.


The pine backboard is intact and has two mirror plates. Plate 56cm wide x 81cm high.
