https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/matt-crosby-interiorsStylish mid‑century Swedish folding three‑panel sculptural low fire screen/spark guard in hand‑forged iron. After a design by Bertil Vallien. Circa 1960-70.
Featuring a linear frame, with a row of circular forms rising on thin, stem-like supports. The mesh ensures visibility of the flame while containing sparks and embers, and introduces a sculptural presence to the hearth.
The screen has articulated sides, allowing for adaptability in placement and ease of storage. The folding design accommodates fireplaces of different widths, and enables the screen to be angled for both practical and aesthetic purposes.
Age and use have introduced natural tonal variations to the iron surface, along with some areas of distortion to the mesh with some out of shape areas. One end foot sits slightly raised and does not rest entirely flush with the floor. Due to the inherent weight of the piece, this does not compromise stability in normal use.
A compelling example of Scandinavian restraint — clean lines, sculptural clarity, and functional integrity in equal measure.
Central screen is 45cm wide. Ends are 20cm wide.
Delivery included to the UK.
