https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/matt-crosby-interiorsArt Deco figured walnut linen press/chest of drawers of superb quality. English. Circa 1930. Made by cabinet maker J L Wriglesworth of Bradford.
The press has a solid walnut top and sides, with the cupboard doors and drawer fronts being veneered in highly figured and burr walnut. The drawer fronts are veneered over solid wood. All of the drawer interiors are constructed in solid mahogany, with handmade dovetail construction, and the bases made to allow for wood movement. Always a sign of a high end piece.
It is in excellent condition, and has been re-finished by hand, still retaining light authentic marks to highlight its genuine heritage. There are some marks and bruising to the sides to note.
The cupboard interior has three pull out slides. All of the interior spaces are very clean. The front drawers to the press have a couple of small knocks to them. There is a catch to open the left hand cupboard door, and the right opens by twisting the handle latch. There is a key that works the cupboard lock.
The solid brass handles are original and made by Croft and Assinder. The locks stamped by a London maker.
The press is very heavy and solid in construction with no damage or woodworm.
The shaped feet base is removable. This has an alcove cut out design, for where it would have been made for original.
Please note, the veneer "patches" you can see are original. When the veneers would have been prepared into their book match design, there would have been natural holes and imperfections to the burr figured walnut.
