Item Details

Fine Art Deco Amboyna Burr Table Cabinet. Circa 1930s.

Of exceptional quality and notably rare, the cabinet has shaped front doors, each set with a full length column with diagonally wrapped celluloid inlay, and delicate brass handles, flanked by half round columnar ends, all raised on a shaped base with brass banded feet.

The interior is fitted in solid walnut with a fixed shelf, and both doors open and close smoothly. Overall in very good condition showing some light signs of use, notably one of the ends has a few age related marks to the base. The ends have mellowed in colour over time. The interior door shows a couple of small filled holes to where a later catch had previously been fitted.

Veneered in Amboyna, the name is derived from Ambon Island in Indonesia, where much of the figured wood is believed to have been initially exported from. Amboyna is among the most expensive and sought-after of all burls. The underside is also finished in Amboyna - a demonstration of the craftsmanship of the piece.

Delivery included to the UK.
