https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/matt-crosby-interiorsMatching pair of late 19th century Gillows oak occasional side circular tables with marble tops. Each stamped: Gillows Lancaster. Numbered: L 27299. Circa 1893.
A desirable matched pair with deep shaped aprons and decorative scalloped cut-outs, terminating on fluted legs with collars above and below united by an arched triangular stretcher.
The oak has the original patina which has been waxed. There are some water marks in places and some light marks.
One stretcher shows a hairline, though this remains sound and stable. Very slight opening to one of the shaped aprons. One leg is marginally darker, likely from UV exposure. This does not affect integrity or presentation and can be positioned to the wall if preferred. Please refer to the photographs
Both tables are very sturdy.
The original marble tops, probably Portasanta, are salmon orange in colour with lead grey “clouds” and white calcite veins. There are marks with use to the tops and some edge wear. A knock to the top edge to note. Please refer to the photographs. Small dowels are present to prevent excessive movement of the marble.
