https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/matt-crosby-interiorsGood set of six Regency mahogany dining chairs with sabre legs and leather seating. Circa 1825.
The chairs have graceful curved backrests with scrolled tops and symmetrically arranged flame mahogany veneers to the bar backs. Crisply carved scrolled classical motifs sit atop the uprights. The chairs are finished with horse hair leather seating, and raised on sabre legs.
The leather seating was probably reupholstered around the early to mid 20th century using horsehair. Originally red, they are now a beautiful burnt rose colour, showing wonderful character, with marks and differences in colour, and a few slight hairlines to the leather. All are still very usable, and very comfortable.
The mahogany frames do have knocks in places, mainly to the front legs. Structurally they are very sound with no loose joints. One of the chairs has had a historic repair to the back uprights. This is solid. Refinished sometime in the past. There have been a couple of veneer repairs to bar backs on the flame mahogany. Please refer to the photographs.
The seat widths are 49.5cm The seat heights are 46.5 cm.
