Item Details

Sleek mid century Gordon Russell walnut chest of drawers and bedside cabinet. Maker's label to cabinet. Circa 1950s.

Superbly crafted as you would expect, this scarce design is beautifully proportioned with understated detailing, while the proud drawer fronts add depth and subtle definition to the overall form.

Overall there are in excellent condition, there have been sympathetically lightly refinished, still retaining some authentic marks to highlight its genuine heritage. There is a small knock to the table drawer to note.

Made in solid and veneered walnut.  The drawers are lined in sycamore with handmade dovetail construction. They all work very smoothly and are clean on the insides. The handle details are acrylic, the small roundels being later replacements in a different tone of grey.

Sir Gordon Russell shaped the history of 20th-century British design, bridging the gap from the arts and crafts movement to a modern, minimalist aesthetic. Passionate about high standards of craftsmanship, he also accepted machinery as a means of reaching out to a wider market without compromising on quality.
