Vintage Japanese six fold screen with hand painted Red‑crowned cranes scene. Circa 1970s.


A large and striking Japanese folding screen, hand painted on a silk type ground and mounted onto a substantial board with teak edging. The six panels depict Red‑crowned cranes within a bamboo grove, rendered in soft blue‑green tones with crisp detailing. There are signs of use as you might expect with some difference in colour to the panels, scuff marks and there has been a repair to a small split at some point. Please refer to the photographs.


The reverse retains its original paper backing, which shows notable wear and signs of use, consistent with age and handling.


The screen can be used as a wall mounted artwork if preferred, the hinges would need to be removed to allow the piece to sit flat.


A bold decorative statement with strong mid century Japanese aesthetic and excellent scale.
