Item Description

Amazing Rare Set of Four Peter Waals 1930’s Dining Chairs

This is an incredibly rare set of four, very high quality, hand made walnut dining chairs by Peter Waals after an Ernest Gimson design, made at Chalford in 1936-37. So beautifully made and in untouched honest condition, they are made in solid walnut with every edge having ebony stringing. The back rest uprights have narrow chamfered ebony splats and all four have the original drop in brown leather upholstered seats. These rare Peter Waals 1930’s dining chairs are almost certainly part of a larger set, one of which is now in the Arts & Crafts collections at Cheltenham. That Peter Waals chair is displayed in their catalogue as piece No66 and with an interesting description and history as described in the book Good Citizens Furniture by Annette Carruthers and Mary Greensted. They are a fabulous set of dining chairs by Peter Waals in wonderful condition, just with two old, small repairs to the ebony stringing.
