Rare 1950’s Cuban Mahogany Set of Six Dining Chairs by Judith E Hughes


A beautifully hand made and very high quality, rare English mid 20th century Cuban mahogany set of six dining chairs. Made by England’s leading female cabinet makers at the time, Judith E Hughes. Made to an extremely high level, on par with more well known cabinet makers of the time like Peter Waals and Barnsley. All six solid Cuban mahogany dining chairs are in excellent, strong and original condition, signed by Judith and with all the original paperwork, letters and estimates between Judith herself and her clients. Judith was the founding member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen in 1955. We also have the matching dining table and sideboard. The seat heights are 47cm. The chairs were ordered in 1954 at a cost of £30 per chair, which would easily be over £1000 per chair in today’s costs.
