Regency English Antique Knurr & Spell Lawn Game
A very good quality, early 19th century antique knurl and spell antique game. The idea is that the mahogany brass bound board has four iron spikes underneath, these are pushed into the ground to stabilise the game. There is a steel spring with a working tension adjuster and also a steel trigger. This is a fabulous, full working example. This game originated from the moors of Yorkshire and was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Knurr is a small white pottery ball, that is placed upon the spring, ready to be triggered up into the air, and then to be struck with the spell which is a stick of wood. Still totally functional. Dates to around 1820.
