Very Rare Peter Waals 1936 Walnut Carver Dining Chair

This is an incredibly rare, very high quality, hand made walnut dining / desk armchair by Peter Waals after an Ernest Gimson design, made at Chalford in 1936-37. So beautifully made and in untouched honest condition, made in solid walnut with every edge having ebony stringing. The back rest uprights have narrow chamfered ebony splats and complete with the original drop in brown leather upholstered seat. This rare Peter Waals 1930’s dining carver armchair is most certainly part of a larger set, one of which is now in the Arts & Crafts collections at Cheltenham. That Peter Waals chair is displayed in their catalogue as piece No66 and with an interesting description and history as described in the book Good Citizens Furniture by Annette Carruthers and Mary Greensted. A fabulous rare armchair by Peter Waals in wonderful condition, interestingly written in pencil on the back rail, beneath the seat support is written ‘1st Set’. Museum quality, such high craftsmanship. In excellent condition with no damage.
