Late 19th century French overmantel mirror with curved top. The gilt frame has a central, raised, outcurving band where the gilding has thinned a little after more than 100 years of dusting, revealing the warm terracotta bole beneath the gold leaf. Each side of this raised band, the gilding has a matt finish and a row of delicate beading runs around the sight edge. The mirror is topped with a wide floral and foliate cartouche with a central decorative shield. The original, bevelled glass is in very good condition and gives an excellent reflection.
