Item Description
Large, rectangular antique French mirror, circa 1840, with a matt watergilt frame which has a gently serpentine profile, set between a raised burnished band on the outer edge and a delicate acanthus leaf sight edge. At each corner there is a beautifully modelled decoration of acanthus leaves and flowers which overhang the outer edges, called a swept corner. The original mercury glass has a little light age but sparkles when it catches the light and gives an excellent reflection. This lovely mirror can be hung portrait, as photographed, but would look particularly stunning hung landscape.
