Item Details

Antique French mirror, circa 1840, with outcurving, gilt, rippled frame and decorative corners. Where the frame has been dusted for almost 200 years, the gilding has thinned in places revealing the terracotta bole and cream gesso beneath, giving the mirror a gentle patina. The decorative corners are beautifully modelled curled acanthus leaves with a central, raised, twisted lozenge. The original, mercury plate has medium age but still gives a very good reflection and this classic French mirror can be hung portrait, as photographed, or landscape.
