Item Details

Early 19th century French giltwood margin mirror with an overlapping acanthus leaf decoration on the outer frame and a twisted inner frame. The frames are linked at the corners with a beautifully carved fanned acanthus leaf with foliate and husk decoration running along the glass on each side. Over 200 years of dusting has thinned the original gilding revealing the cream gesso beneath and giving the mirror a light colouration. The original, mercury glass has a little age in the frame sections but the central glass is clear, sparkles where it catches the light, and gives an excellent reflection.
