Large, antique, French, Louis-Philippe period (1830-48) archtop mirror with wide, outcurving, gilt frame decorated with an etched criss-cross design and with a delicate row of beading running along the sight edge. The design is highlighted by burnishing the gold leaf within the etched lines and leaving the background gilding with a matt finish. Each lower corner has a raised fanned acanthus leaf. The original, mercury glass is in superb condition, sparkles along the base where it catches the light, and gives an excellent reflection. This beautiful, original, classic mirror would make a lovely overmantel working in both a contemporary and a traditional setting.
