Item Details

Antique French mirror, circa 1840, with burnished gilt undulating, or wavy, frame. Where this mirror has been dusted for more than 100 years, the gilding has thinned in the more reachable areas revealing the terracotta bole and cream gesso beneath. The gilding wraps around the outside edges of the frame, so it looks just as prestigious from the side. The mirror has a delicate, decorative cartouche of a circlet of leaves and berries set behind a pair of curled acanthus leaves. Another pair of acanthus leaves decorate each side of the base. The original, mercury glass has a little age around the edges but is in very good condition overall and gives an excellent reflection.
