Item Details

Antique French oval mirror, circa 1890, with narrow, burnished, outcurving, watergilt frame. Where this mirror has been dusted for more than 100 years, the gold leaf has thinned revealing the dark terracotta, almost chestnut brown, coloured bole beneath and the bright gold lines across the frame show where each sheet of gold leaf slightly overlapped when it was first applied. A dainty row of beading runs around the sight edge (edge closest to the glass) and the gilding continues around the outside edge of the frame. The original glass has some small areas of age but still gives an excellent reflection. This classic oval mirror is slightly larger than most and will make an elegant addition to any room.
