Item Details

Elegant antique French oval mirror, circa 1890, with narrow, burnished, watergilt frame finished with a delicate row of beading around the sight edge. Where the mirror has been dusted for more than 100 years, the gilding has thinned just a little in places showing hints of the terracotta bole beneath the gold leaf and also showing faint lines where the sheets of gold leaf overlapped. This mirror has a stamp on the back showing that the frame was first purchased in 1875 from a photographer in Nimes, southern France. The mirror glass is from the end of the 19th century and has some light age but still gives a very good reflection.
