Item Details

Antique French mirror, circa 1880, with burnished, silverleafed frame decorated with a chevron, or dragged icing, design between two raised ropetwist borders. After more than a century of dusting, the silverleaf has thinned revealing hints of the dark terracotta bole and cream gesso beneath which, along with a little oxidisation, gives the frame an attractive patina. The original glass is in very good condition with just a little age and gives and excellent reflection. This mirror can be hung portrait, as photographed, or landscape. Also, the frame has been sealed with a clear shellac to prevent any tarnishing of the silver leaf.
