Item Details

Antique French mirror, circa 1880, with outcurving, burnished, watergilt, undulating (or wavy) frame. Where this mirror has been dusted for more than 100 years, the terracotta bole and cream gesso are just beginning to show through the gold leaf. However, you can also see the brighter gold lines where each sheet of gold leaf was overlapped, when this mirror was originally gilded and the gilding is continued around the outer edge of the frame. The original glass is in very good condition, with just a hint, of age and gives an excellent reflection. These very sought-after and desirable mirrors can be hung portrait, as photographed, or landscape.
