Item Details

Large, decorative, gilt, antique French margin oval mirror, circa 1840. The outer frame has an alternating ribbon twist and floral design with a delicate row of overlapping leaves on the inside edge and the inner frame has a ribbon twist and overlapping leaf decoration. The two frames are linked with four medallions of curled leaves, ribbons and central bell flowers, the mirror is topped with a wide floral and foliate cartouche and pierced acanthus leaves decorate the base. The gilding on this mirror has darkened over the ages and is a pleasing brown-gold. Each section of the mirror has bevelled, mercury glass and the outer sections have some foxing, mainly towards the bottom of the mirror, but the central bevelled glass is very good and gives an excellent reflection.
