Antique Venetian mirror, circa 1840, with re-entrant upper and lower corners and curved top with elaborate cartouche. The wide frame sections have long, scallop cut edges and a central design of flowers and leaves. Each piece of the frame is secured with beautifully cut glass leaves, held in place with little glass flower-topped screws. Curled acanthus leaves run across the re-entrant corners and run along the outside edge of the frame. There is a small cartouche on the base of the mirror and a spectacular acanthus leaf with central etched oval cartouche along the top of the mirror. Every piece of this mirror is original, mercury glass with a little age in some of the frame and leaves, as well as the central bevelled glass, which gives an excellent reflection.
