Item Details

Magnificent antique French gilt margin mirror, circa 1840. The beautifully modelled outer frame consists of curled palm leaves and berries with a high cartouche at the top when the palm leaves form a circle around a central floral and foliate design. The base of the mirror has a central decoration of crossed palm leaves with a fanned acanthus leaf in the middle. The inner frame is decorated with a row of large beading and the inner and outer frames are linked at each corner with a narrow diagonal band decorated with simplified leaves. The original, mercury glass is bevelled in all sections and is superb, original condition, just sparkling along the base of the central glass when it catches the light and giving an excellent reflection.
