Item Description
Rare mid-19th century French mirror with wide, etched gilt frame with a serpentine profile. The etched central section is decorated with a criss-cross design and this is set between a bead and husk outer edge and beaded sight edge. Where this mirror has been dusted for almost 200 years, the gilding has thinned a little revealing some of the warm terracotta bole beneath, making the criss-cross design clearer to see. The original mercury glass has just a little light age and gives an excellent reflection. This mirror would make a very attractive and unusual overmantel and can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
