Item Details

Very large, decorative, antique, cushioned Venetian mirror, circa 1890. The narrow outer section of the frame has elongated scallop cuts along both edges and a row of central circles or bubbles. The central section of the frame has a wide and beautifully etched design of flowers and leaves and the inner section has small scallop cuts along both edges with a central pattern of alternating matt silver ovals and bright silver circles. Each section of the frame is held in place with either a glass flower or leaf secured with little glass flower-topped screw and the mirror has diagonal leaf decorations at each corner over the wider frame section. There is the option of adding a spectacular cartouche to the top of the mirror which will bring its height up to 194cm instead of 160cm high. The frame designs continue on every side of the mirror although the photographs do not show the lower side well, as this is reflecting the carpet. There is a little age in the glass flowers and leaves holding the frame in place but the frame sections themselves and the original, bevelled, central glass are in very good condition and give an excellent reflection. This mirror can also be hung landscape.
