Item Details

Tall, narrow, antique French mirror, circa 1890, with triple, curved top and incurving base. The narrow, watergilt frame is decorated at intervals with little floral and foliate sprays, the incurving base has a small central shell with curled leaves on either side and the top of the mirror has a glorious, pierced, acanthus leaf cartouche, flanked with flowers and leaves. After more than a century of dusting, the gilding has thinned a little in places revealing the terracotta bole beneath and the horizontal gold lines across these areas show where each sheet of gold leaf slightly overlapped. The original glass is in very good condition, gives an excellent reflection and this beautiful mirror would make an elegant full-length mirror.
