The purpose of the cloth was probably ceremonial and it's in almost perfect condition. It's around 60 or 70 years old and is made from hand spun hand loomed cotton, in layers that are held together with tiny quilting stitches. The surface is also decorated in a geometric design with couched stitching. The colours are natural, indigo and madder and they have faded to a beautiful patina. I've mounted the textile on a rustic piece of cotton over a stretched canvas. There is a hanging wired on the back.
If you are hanging this textile on a sunny wall, I would recommend using a museum grade perspex cover as this will cut out harmful UV rays that would fade the colours. I can quote for this.
