Item Details

An early 19th century French wall mirror. This evocative period mirror boasts a mass of hand carved gilt wood decoration upon a deep green painted wooden background. To the top of the mirror sits a decorative wooden crest consisting of three urns bursting with hand carved gilt wood flowers together with swags of gilded leaves and berries. The gilded surface has faded and rubbed a little in places revealing the amber coloured basecoat creating a warm contrast of colours. The original glass mirror plate is heavily foxed with much wear only enhancing its mystery and charm. Original heavy wooden back board.
French paint and gilt wood wall mirror. Circa 1820.
