Item Details

An early 19th century English gilded overmantle mirror. The raised central moulding to this handsome mirror is decorated with a continuous gesso gilded ribbon entwined with tiny acanthus leaves overlapping with further moulded decoration to either side. The original gold leaf has faded and evenly rubbed over the past near two centuries revealing varying base colours creating a wonderfully atmospheric English country house appearance. The glass mirror plate is the original piece together with the original pine backboards which have remained intact from the day it was assembled circa 1850.
