1960’s Cado 2 bay teak hanging system


Poul Cadovius designed a number of different wall mounted systems, but its mainly this one or his Royal System which hangs on metal supports. The cabinets and chests are supported on clever dowels which slot into the upright supports whereas the shelves hang on lovely teak angled supports which also fix in with dowels. One of these is shown in the photos. The deeper the shelf the larger the supports. It’s a very elegant stylish design.


We have recently sourced this one and single bay along with other pieces from the family of the original owners, and also found larger 3 bay set in an auction. We have swapped a couple of shelves to make the nicest layouts for each.


This one has a large 4 drawer chest which is 80cms wide 46cms deep and 51.5cms high. This is also deeper than the usual 3 drawer version. Next to it we have placed a deep shelf that’s also 46cms deep which would make a good work station for a laptop or small desktop computer. Then you have 5 slightly shallower shelves that are 38cms deep and 1 that is only 22cms deep.


The upright supports are 203 cms, but they can be fixed at various heights above a skirting board. Ladderax ladders are mainly 201cms as a comparison. Cabinets and shelves all 80cms wide, the wood uprights project a little taking it to 163cms in total.


Condition


Fully cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or damage. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely


Notes


These can obviously be fixed onto solid loadbearing walls but can also be fixed to stud walls. Stud panels are usually 40cms wide so the uprights can be fixed to alternate battens which is how we’ve fixed this one to the stud wall of our photography area.
