Fab piece that’s been beautifully made probably in the late 1990’s as a shop display piece for Habitat. Tom Dixon was appointed in 1998 and worked for Habitat for about 10 years. Habitat was started in the mid 1960’s by the legendary Terence Conran spreading all over the UK, France and parts of the US. It then merged with Mothercare and later unsuccessfully with BHS before being bought from the ashes of the Storehouse banner by Ingvar Kamprad founder of IKEA in the 1990’s. It operated under his ownership and the design direction of Tom Dixon for a few years, and this apparently was originally designed as a display piece. It’s certainly eye catching and much more environmentally friendly than the real thing !
Some people say it’s full size, but we think it’s slightly smaller. It’s 172cms long, 111cms at its highest and the width varies from 45cms to 58cms.
We bought it from a house clearance dealer who had found it in the loft of a local motorcycle enthusiast who had apparently bought it in the early 2000’s.
