A Younger afrormosia teak bench designed by John Herbert

Although these lovely well made benches were made by Youngers for a good number of years not that many of them were sold as they rarely come up for sale. As we specialise in Younger pieces we’ve sold far more than anyone else. Between 2017 and 2020 we were really lucky to find 5 all of which sold quickly, this is only the 3rd one we’ve managed to find since then.

A Younger were one of the best British makers of contemporary furniture from around 1955 to the late 1960’s. Their design director John Herbert was very talented and came up with some really stylish designs. This was designed to match the Volnay range which was introduced in 1956 and made for over a decade such was it’s lasting popularity. You’ll see lots of Volnay sideboards for sale today but very few benches which are great as they can seat 4 kids easily.

It’s been newly upholstered by our in-house upholsterer as it was looking rather tired after some 60 years of use.

Seat 172cms long, seat height 50cms, back height 74cms, depth 45cms

Condition
The frame has been cleaned and oiled and is looking really good . The upholstery has been replaced with a lovely lime felted wool fabric . As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely .
