This lovely sleek model is one that turns up occasionally, but this one has particularly nice grain to the teak veneers to the top and doors. Archie Shine was known in the furniture trade for his ability to buy the choicest veneers for use on his pieces and he has excelled with this particular one. The doors have a lovely wavy almost silky grain similar to satinwood. The drawers are in afrormosia which is also known as African teak which is a darker wood that was used by a few quality makers like Shine in the late 1950’s an d early 1960’s.
At 8ft it’s one of the longest models made by Archie Shine and other British makers. His pieces were sold at Heals and various high end provincial retailers and were always expensive when new. The quality of the detailing such as the beautifully reeded drawers is really good.
Cleaned and oiled. There are no obvious marks or scratches or other damage. When we first saw it we thought it had a mark to the top, but then realised it was the unusual grain of the teak veneer which is shown in one of the photos. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.
