Archie Shine walnut Hamilton console table Robert Heritage

Designed to match the ground-breaking Hamilton sideboard which was the first long low sideboard to be sold in the UK and exhibited in 1957 . This model came either as a slightly shorter 2 drawer version or this one with 3 drawers . Both were available in various woods , and this one is a rich walnut , others were made in teak , rosewood or laurel . They were available as dressing tables with mirrors or as console or serving table . This one like most started as a dressing table , but today they’re usually sold as console tables which were rarely bought in the 1950’s and 1960’s .

This one dates to the early 1960’s and came with other pieces which we’re also listing . Archie Shine were a small top quality maker that grew on the back of the success of the Hamilton sideboard and other later designs by Robert Heritage who was probably the most successful British furniture designer of his generation . Archie Shine was a trained cabinet maker and was very particular about the quality of pieces that came out of his workshops . He was known at the time for his sourcing of the best timbers and veneers and his pieces were sold at Heals and through top provincial furniture retailers so are rarely labelled .

Top quality cabinet making with lovely reeded drawers with solid fronts and lovely dovetails this was expensive when new and these console tables are always hard to find and very popular .
