Cado single bay teak hanging shelf system

1960’s Cado 2 bay teak hanging system by Poul Cadovius

Poul Cadovius designed a number of different wall mounted systems, but its mainly this one or his Royal System which hangs on metal supports. The cabinets and chests are supported on clever dowels which slot into the upright supports whereas the shelves hang on lovely teak angled supports which also fix in with dowels. One of these is shown in the photos. The deeper the shelf the larger the supports. It’s a very elegant stylish design.

We have recently sourced this one and a 2 bay system along with other pieces from the family of the original owners, and also found larger 3 bay set in an auction. We have swapped a couple of shelves to make the nicest layouts for each.

This one has a single cupboard with sliding doors which is 80cms wide, 38cms deep and 43cms high. Two shelves 30cms deep, one shelf 22cms deep.

The upright supports are 158 cms, but they can be fixed at various heights above a skirting board. The 2 bay system has taller supports, but the 3 bay one is the same height so this must have been a fairly standard height and not one that has been cut down. Ladderax ladders are mainly 201cms as a comparison. Width taking into account upright supports 83.5cms.

Condition

Fully cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or damage. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.

Notes

These can obviously be fixed onto solid loadbearing walls but can also be fixed to stud walls. Stud panels are usually 40cms wide so the uprights can be fixed to alternate battens which is how we’ve fixed this one to the stud wall of our photography area.
