Early 1960’s Mexican abalone alpaca box


We have found a few of these stylish beautifully made boxes online, but this seems to be the largest one for sale with most being about two thirds of the size . Bought c 1963 in Mexico. Abalone shell with it’s iridescent patterns looks great with alpaca silver mounts. Alpaca is a silver coloured metal that is great to work with and makes an ideal mount and base. The interior is lined in a rich mahogany type wood.


We can date the box to circa 1962-64 from family history as the holiday it was bought on had to be prior to 1965.


Marked “hencho en Mexico” which translates as Made in Mexico.

In good vintage condition with no cracks or chips
