Early Victorian beadwork rosewood long low stool.


Something totally different from our usual stock, but in keeping with our policy of buying really top quality pieces from all eras when we see something special. The part beaded needlework is as bright as the day it was done, but the previous owner has had the sides and edging re-done in recent years as well as the under-cloth. The carving of the rosewood is High Victorian at it’s best so it’s been a high class piece.


It’s slightly angled so presumably has been intended as a prayer stool, maybe for use in a private chapel but little used as there is no wear to the needlework which may be a little later in date than the rosewood frame.
