Greaves & Thomas Villager sofa bed newly upholstered.


Fully re upholstered from the frame up, new foam on the seat and bed area. It has been upholstered in a good quality natural Camira fabric. Mainline flax, this is a wool and flax weave in orange, red and golden threads which results in an overall lovely burnt orange which suits the wood. The back and seat fold out and over to create a small bed area for occasional nights.


A lovely afrormosia frame and a stylish designed in the early 1960’s by Walter Cornell and made by Greaves & Thomas who specialised in making good quality sofa beds. This one is from The Villager Davenport range which included chairs and standard sofas as well as this model which they called a ” Put-U-Up”.


The 1966 catalogue described it as ” Put-U-Up Villager Davenport Sofa-sleeper with show wood arms sculpted from solid afromosia converets into a double bed for occasional use with it’s own separate sleeping surface “.


 


Condition
Frame has been cleaned and is in nice vintage condition. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to find some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.


The upholstery has been replaced, base springs secured and natural fabric top cover that complies with UK fire regs.

Notes
Walter Cornell was the design director for Greaves & Thomas in the 1950’s and 1960’s and is understood to have been responsible for all their ranges . His son has recently given us a basic biography for Walter .
