Group of 3 Boda Afors Unik glass vases by Bertil Vallien

Bertil Vallien ( 1938- present day ) has been probably the most important Swedish glass artist/designers of his era with some of his very large unique pieces selling for very large amounts. Here we have 3 unique pieces from his early days which must have been influenced by early studio glass pieces by pioneers like Sam Herman. You’ll find other pieces by him from this series shown online, but most are unsigned or only have Boda Afors labels. He joined Afors in 1963, the company allied with Boda and Kosta in 1964, and at that point it seems as if pieces were engraved or labelled Boda Afors. In 1971 the 3 firms formally merged and became Kosta Boda. This dates these pieces to the latter half of the 1960’s when Vallien was still an up and coming artist/designer.

The signed piece has a typical Vallien doodle as well as being marked as Unik so is presumably one he actually produced himself, whereas the unmarked larger pieces will probably be Afors factory glass blowers so unsigned. Due to their form and decoration all are unique pieces. Possibly Vallien was capable of blowing the smallest pieces himself, whereas larger pieces would need more skill.

They make a lovely group. Largest 25.5cms high, smallest 15cms high
